Mate tea, also known as yerba mate, is a tea that has been grown in Brazil, Argentina and Uruguay for 500 years and is consumed hot in traditional mate cups. The story of mate tea

First discovered by the Guarani tribe in the Parana rainforests, mate tea was accepted as a gift from the gods and became a part of daily rituals when its awakening and mind-expanding effects were noticed.

Benefits of mate tea

Mate tea provides long-lasting and balanced energy without palpitations with its high caffeine and theobromine combination. This is the most important reason why football players prefer mate tea instead of coffee or energy drinks before matches.

In addition to its energizing effect, mate tea is indispensable for healthy eating plans with its metabolism-accelerating and weight-loss-helping properties. In addition, its blood sugar and cholesterol lowering effect and heart health supporting benefits are supported by numerous studies.

So, what does mate tea taske like?

This mystical plant can have very different taste profiles depending on the region where it grows and roasting and grinding techniques. Its most characteristic feature is that it has a woody and smokey aroma and smell. In addition, fruity, caramel-like flavors and grassy smells can often be noticed. In short, we can say “green tea on steroids”.

That's all well and good, but how do you brew mate tea?

Traditionally, after pouring plenty of mate tea into a mate glass, adding a small amount of hot water, it is consumed throughout the day. You can watch the details in the video below.

For a more practical brewing method, add a tablespoon of mate tea and 200 ml (one mug) of hot water at 70 degrees to the French Press. After brewing for 4 minutes, you can strain it and drink it with pleasure. Note: When you use boiling water, the tea gives a bitter taste, so if you wait 30 seconds after the water boils and pour it in, you can get a softer drink.

In hot weather, you can brew it with cold water and add botanicals such as lemon and mint. In fact, this method is so popular in South America that it even has a separate name, “tereré”.
